2019 Volkswagen Arteon vs. 2019 Nissan Altima
Volkswagen's latest entry into the sedan market is tantalizingly close to arriving at the Spitzer VW showroom. Even before it is for sale, the radically-designed fast-back sedan already has one of its chief competitors in its sights. A comparison of the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon vs. 2019 Nissan Altima certainly demonstrates how much the Arteon has to offer and how the Altima has improved for the new model year. However, the upgraded Nissan model will still be lagging behind Arteon in more than a few key areas. From the jump, the physical differences between the 2019 VW Arteon and 2019 Nissan Altima will be clear. The Arteon uses VW's new global vehicle architecture platform which allows it to have radical fastback design which maintains plenty of head and legroom for tall passengers in the backseat. As the pervasiveness of smartphone integration systems leaps toward ubiquity, both the sedans offer compatible with Apple- and Android-based devices. VW takes the extra step of making its digital cockpit display available on some Arteon trims. Not only does this feature replace analog gauges with a customizable LCD screen and Nissan does not offer a competing system with the Altima.
It would be a mistake to think that the all-new Arteon and the refreshed Altima are going to be closely matched in performance because they have similar engine displacement figures. Under the hood of the 2019 Arteon is a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and the 2019 Altima uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder power plant. The VW sedan makes nearly 270 horsepower compared to less than 190 horsepower for the Nissan competitor. Nissan has also added a turbocharged engine, but it also doesn't match the Areton. Both versions have all-wheel-drive options available, but only the Arteon offers adaptive suspension damping to provide a very dynamic handling profile.
