How quick is the 2018 Golf GTI?
By no stretch of the imagination should the 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI be considered a slow or plodding hatchback. The four-door Golf GTI comes in three trims: S, SE and Autobahn. All of them use the same turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and can either be attached to a dual-clutch six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. Regardless of how a driver changes gears, the 2018 Golf GTI is able to produce 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Given the lightweight nature of the new GTI, this should be more than enough power for spirited acceleration.
2018 Golf R performance specs
The 2018 Volkswagen Golf R is the undisputed champion of the Golf family when it comes to performance. In fact, the 2018 Golf R is the most powerful version of the Golf to ever be sold to American buyers. This version of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf R also uses a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine like the GTI. However, the Golf R makes 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This is a pretty significant boost in performance over its GTI sibling. Additionally, the Golf R comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment and offers a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic as an available option.
